Dear Justice-Seeking People of Faith,

Grace and peace to you during this annual conference season.

After months of discernment, the Board of Directors is pleased to announce the hire of Bridget Cabrera to be the new Executive Director of the Methodist Federation for Social Action. Bridget currently serves as the Director of the Non-Profit Hub for McCurdy Ministries Community Center in Espanola, New Mexico, where she works with volunteers from around the country and builds relationships and partnerships with nonprofit organizations in the area.

Known in the United Methodist progressive movement for her integrity, prophetic witness, and collaborative spirit, Bridget has had extensive work experience in the United Methodist Church serving as an Executive Staff member of United Methodist Women, Deputy Director of Reconciling Ministries Network, and a leader in the Love Your Neighbor Coalition. Cabrera earned her undergraduate degree from The University of Alabama and MDiv from Candler School of Theology at Emory University. When asked about Bridget, Rev. Amy Stapleton, chair of the MFSA Personnel Committee, stated, "In this time of uncertainty in the United Methodist Church, Bridget brings faith, clear convictions and tremendous skills to lead MFSA. She is a strong leader in the work of justice and calls the church to a future not yet realized.”

Bridget shared recently, “I am honored to join the MFSA family in this capacity and want to particularly thank the MFSA Board of Directors for their thoughtful search process and Deaconess Darlene DiDomineck for her leadership. This is a challenging time in our church and in our nation. Our work of seeking justice in our churches, communities, our denomination, country, and world will not be easy. I believe that challenges always come with opportunities to do what is right, equitable, and just in ways that show our love, values, passion, and commitment.  I am eager to join you in the faithful, justice-seeking, transformative work MFSA has always been a part of and can't wait to get started in our work together!”

Toward the end of June, Bridget will join Darlene DiDomineck, in transitioning the national office to Detroit.  It is with deep appreciation and high praise that Darlene departs the Intentional Interim Executive Director position. According to MFSA Board Co-President, Rev. Dr. Michelle Lewis, “Under Darlene’s leadership, MFSA has been able to build capacity and continue moving forward as a faith-centered, justice-seeking organization.”  In her new position Darlene will become the first Executive Director of the newly created community non-profit, The Center - Philadelphia.

When asked about the transition, Darlene shared, “It has been an honor to serve MFSA in this capacity these last two years. We are making the church, our local communities and our nation more loving, more just and more faithful. I am thrilled to welcome my longtime friend, colleague and fellow justice-seeker, Bridget Cabrera, as our new Executive Director. I know she will lead us faithfully as we work to make justice a reality in our denomination and in our world.”

The MFSA network continues to be a place where hope is revealed. Thank you for your ongoing support of MFSA, your tireless work for justice and may God grant us wisdom and courage for the living of these days.

Rev. Dr. Michelle Lewis and Rev. Vicki Flippin
